Not necessarily. My VIN is 1158 and it arrived nearly two months ago. They haven't been produced or delivered in strict VIN order due to production scheduling, supplier delays and quality control sequencing, so it's hard to know exactly how many have been made. Fisker has announced that over 1000 have already been delivered to customers or dealers though.lowpue said:I just got the VIN which ended in a number very close to 01000. Does that mean that it car number 1000 off the assembly line? I should get it in about 1 week.
I called customer service a few weeks ago to asked them if my VIN # reflected my production number. I was told that the VIN # gets assigned upon ordering. It does not directly indicate that actual production of the car but it is a good estimate.lowpue said:I just got the VIN which ended in a number very close to 01000. with most manufacturers, you would be correct, however Fisker is different in this regard. VINs have been assigned prior to production. the dealers have list of their cars ordered, what the VIN will be as well as the expected manufacturing date. Our 211 demo was produced months before the #20 SE car, and a 711 car was produced a few weeks after the 1430 car. while the general trend is towards increasing VIN numbers, it is more based on the trim/color/interior groupings. most ES/Eclipse/BlackSand cars i have seen have all vin numbers in 500-700 range and were mostly delivered in the DEC/JAN time frame as an example.LonePalmBJ said:Jeff,
I'm almost certain this is not accurate. VINs are not assigned until production, irrespective of order sequence.
I also ordered my car on Aug. 29, 2011. It is also an Inferno Canyon Tri Tone. I got my VIN Number in December. It was shipped out of Helsinki on December 27, 2011 and delivered on March 1, 2012. It spent a long time in Newark, NJ. It is VIN # 1188.MArkansas said:I ordered my car in Aug. 29, 2011 and it was accepted by Fisker within 24 hours. I fought with Fisker until Feb of 2012 before they allegedly COULD give me a Vin #. I was told repeatedly that numbers were not assigned until production began on the car. I'm #1383 delivered 4 weeks ago. Inferno Canyon Tri Tone.
Before regular production started in late fall 2011 and there was a very large backlog of orders, the VIN was assigned right before the car's assembly started. These days, since the factory is operating continuously and the backlog is in the order of a couple of months rather than years, the VIN is probably assigned as soon as you place the order.MArkansas said:I ordered my car in Aug. 29, 2011 and it was accepted by Fisker within 24 hours.
