Thought I would create a thread for those of us who would like to hob nob with Leonardo, Al, Ashton, Colin, Ray, and the others if they ever visit. Just kidding, but seriously, there are reasons why we chose to get a Signature Edition, so I thought this might be a good place to share info specifically geared towards that end, like auto show appearances, get togethers, etc.

Why did you choose an SE vs. a standard ES/EC? I personally didn't want the gold tint on the silver...

SoCalGuy, I have several (and still have one) brilliant silver cars, so the gold tint was perfect for me. In fact, until the color was confirmed, I was anxious the color was going to be just silver and I was glad it turned out to be what it became. I love the color combination. Color is so personal and they are all nice, but for me the Signature Edition is perfection. I'm glad you didn't want the gold tint, since to you it isn't an option. It'd suck to want it and not be able to get it. ;-)
The main reason I chose the Signature Edition was that I wanted to lock in the price at $100K for a car that had all the options and I would be one of the first to get mine. That was the dream I bought into. It certainly was a gamble, but in the end it paid off. I have a special Karma, at a special price and the color combination is ideal for me (and I didn't even have to sweat over it).
Kabalah 70, great idea! I think we are a group that have a lot in common.
Cheers,

Nice... You're right.. Color is a very personal choice. In hindsight, locking in the price was a good move. At the time I was more worried about the company's survival... So it was a question of $5K vs I think $25K at risk. But I am glad I went with Silver Wind :)

The deposit for the SEs was $5K too. It is the Sunset that had the $25K deposit. I got an SE under the hope that 1) I would get the car before the standard cars (that didn't work out...) and 2) as a limited edition it made me feel special, and may appreciate over time. It'll be my daily driver, so we'll see about the value... When the SEs sold in Jan '08 there were only two colors being shown at Detroit '08 - silver and blue. I believe the silver shown at Detroit '08 was communicated initially as the "exclusive SE color"

The exclusiveness of the Signature Edition is what drew me too it. I mean 100, compared to Tesla's 1000 for the Model S. Locking in the $100k has also turned out to be a great boon. Deposit of $5k versus $1k when they first came out was a drop in the bucket difference. Once again, considering the $25k versus $5k for Model S. Color choice would have been nice, but by making the exterior and interior color unique it will be very hard to pose as an SE, if one is not.
