I asked Xpel if they will make a template for covering the rear doors and rear fender area, which was reported to be prone to rock and sand chips, and got the following reply. So if enough Karma owners email XPEL Support, they will prioritize the development of a kit to protect this area. So please take a few seconds and send off this email (of course signing up is not a commitment to buy). Thanks!

Dear Xpel,

I'm about to take delivery of a 2012 Fisker Karma, and have read reports about the car's tendency to show paint chips on the REAR doors and fenders in front o the REAR wheels. Do you make an Xpel Ultimate kit that covers these rear pieces of the car?

We have added you to the Design Request notification list for:

Vehicle: 2012 Fiskar Karma

Coverage: Rockers, RWI

Now that you are on the list, we can notify you when the pattern is avaliable. Also, we look at the total number of people on the list to help prioritize the workload.

Please let us know if you have further questions on the process.

Sincerely,

XPEL Technologies Corp.

Does it matter that XPEL doesn't have the make correct? If they were looking up patterns for "Fiskar" and not "Fisker" could they have missed it?

Xpel already has a template from the front end of the Karma-- see the thread from the owner in TX who seems very happy with the result-- so I think their typo won't matter.

Pricing: clear bras in general aren't cheap. My guess is to do ALL the vulnerable areas in the front and rear would probably cost ~$3k. Someone with more info please correct me if I'm mistaken!

If the paint chipping is as problematic on the Karma as some think (especially on black cars), it is probably worth it IMO.

The way Xpel operates is to charge the new customer for the production of any new design pattern not in stock in addition to the cost of their film. Then they keep the design pattern and sell it to all new customers film price only. Bigdaddyo811 already had them design the front for his car which is now for sale to all of us. Today I paid them to design patterns for the remainder of painted surfaces. Bigdaddyo811 is kind enough to take his car back for computer measurements. Today Xpel's web site was changed to offer Bigdaddyo811 patterns for sale and by the time I pay for the remainder of the patterns you will see them for sale. The ground has been paved. Wait a week and enjoy a lower price! I paid double.

It's not a great way to do business. MAkransas was willing to help them out to get patterns made and they basically werent interested. They stated only 1600 Karmas so if you guys want it...pay for it.

I dont remember singing any documents stating that they could use my car to make the pattern for the front, AND HAE ME PAY FOR IT....but then I didnt ask either.

Good film.. not so great a company.

Basically a pyramid business plan. We will create their Karma!

The car they are talking about is bigdaddyo811's car. He let them use his car to make the patterns for my car. He is in TX and I'm in Ark. Now the patterns for the entire car are available for all. Thanks bigdaddyo811

I keep forgetting the answer to this question - is 'clear bra' just a colloquial term for the products made by the likes of 3M and others? Is there one brand that is better than another?

I was reading this article on Motor Trend.... http://www.motortrend.com/womt/112_0401_clear_bra/viewall.html

It says: "...The only minor downsides are that it's much less reflective than paint and looks dull under certain light."

Clear-Bra is like "Band-Aid", it's a specific brand name that is now also used generically to refer to a class of products. ClearBra (http://www.getclearbra.com/), 3M, Xpel and others make similar products. I don't know enough to say which is better, but they all seem to have their supporters.

I just texted my install guy who is at xpel being trained and certified as we speak. He has been certified in other brands, wraps, tints etc... for over 22 years that I know of. He has used 3m and solar guard "clear bra's". He is as picky as I am and knows how picky I am. With that said he indicated that the class is much to his surprise very educational despite his experience level and also indicated that he had never seen a better product than the Xpel film. Nothing like having feet and eyes on the ground.

I just sent a text to my man on the ground at xpel concerning the issue of the film dulling the look of the finish as I have an Inferno. He said that the film was the most natural looking that he had ever seen.

Here are pictures of my film after alot of dust blew around our house and got on my car. You can see on the back around the fenders that the line is clearly seen on the door. If you look from far it is not that noticeable, but if you get close you can see it for sure. It does not look bad, but the line is noticeable. For the protection it is worth it. If you could afford to get the whole car done then you would not have the lines so may be worth it.

You can see on the front of the car that you cant see anything where the film is covering everything.
