Running fan during charging????

Hello all,
I'm also new to the forum. I'm an owner of Signature Series #87 and have been driving it since 1/11/12.
I'm very happy with it from the standpoint of driving characteristics and certainly esthetics and head turning factor. I have not yet gone back for 6.13 upgrade that my dealer in Orlando just got on Friday but at this point in terms of electronics/computers each day is unpredictable and I discover new issues (not always persistent) nearly each time I restart the vehicle-none safety or driving related.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the 6.13 will take out all the kinks but find myself not being overly optimistic about it being a "fix-it-all".

In the meanwhile, has anyone noted that once you put it on charge the fan starts running and doesn't quit unless you unplug and replay it and sometimes more than once? Any comments or any feedback from dealers/corporate on the issue? Is it normal, how long should run for etc.
To be specific, I have been driving 99% in Stealth since the delivery except the day of delivery.
Thanks,
Urojet

Owner's manual which is linked in the forum somewhere states that it is normal for the fans and coolant pumps to operate during recharging. It is a liquid-cooled battery. Pluging and unpluging it several times is probably not a good thing.
You definitely want the fans to run when charging.

Heat is one of the biggest enemies of battery life, and both charging and discharging of the battery generate heat. My Roadster fans run almost constantly when charging.

Matter of fact, there are some owners who specifically charge their Roadster for at least a 1/2 hour after driving, since charging will run the cooling system to cool the battery down. They're thinking getting the battery cooled down sooner is better for longer term battery life. After a 1/2 hour, they then do the rest of the charge after midnight, when rates are lower.
Interesting thoughts, teslaowner.

Depends on which fan is running. Can you tell which it is?

Here's a link to the draft owner's manual... See section 6.6 for reference to cooling fans during charging:

Thank you all. I'm loving this car! I'll be loving it even more once the wrinkles are smoothed out.
I have become accustomed to knowing the car is charging because the fan comes on. For the last few times I have come home and plugged in the fan doesnt go on but the car is still charged in the morning. Is there a rhyme or reason to when the fan goes on or not?

The fans are probably controlled by the battery coolant temperature, just like a regular car's electric fan is controlled by the engine coolant temperature. If the battery is at optimum temperature, of the charging cycle has finished and the car is fully charged, there is no need to run the fans.
