We have received more than a few emails inquiring about an adaptive cruise control (ACC) system for the Karma and are contemplating offering a kit for the 2012 Karma.

The system will consist of a fixed windshield mount camera; placed behind rear view mirror that monitors traffic, distance and speed relative to the closest in lane vehicle/object. If ACC is active and an object is detected, the brakes will automatically be applied.

Essentially the vehicle will adjust its speed to correspond with traffic flow. The greatest benefit of this system is in stop and go traffic. The system will be based off OEM components currently in production vehicles. Let us know if there is interest, so we can determine if this is a product we can offer.

My last ICE-powered car before the Karma (2007 Jag XK) had this feature and it was a great help during commutes and also for driving late at night when I was tired. I just had to focus on steering the car and the ACC took care of the speed. Even when I was not using the ACC, I could enable the collision warning system to alert me to a potential collision if I was momentarily distracted when the traffic slowed down or came to a halt. This would be a great safety improvement, IMHO.

I have an app on my Iphone that uses the phone's camera to provide collision warning and lane departure warnings. It would be nice if the ACC software offered by PowerSource incorporates similar features.

A passive safety system would be a lot easier, we could illuminate a warning triangle on the cluster if the system detected an imminent safety hazard/collision. Much easier than a full ACC system and could be active all the time.

0% interest. I think with an active safety feature like this I would only trust an OEM solution with years of testing behind it. I prefer not to die unnecessarily.

I do like the extended range battery option though......

You are right!!!
I just ordered an Audi with all these assistant systems and I even don't know, whether the maker trusts them enough, to present me the functionality, when we pic up the car at the factory in Ingolstadt in April...

This will become real fun!!!!
