Does the Karma have keyless entry...as in the key is in your pocket and you can just open the door without pushing the open button on the key fob? And lock by touching the outside door handle after you have closed the door if key is in your pocket?
No. The car has keyless start - the fob just needs to be in the car and you can start the vehicle - but there is no keyless entry in the way you are asking. The fob does not act as a proximity key to unlock the doors, nor is there a sensor or button on the door handle that triggers it. You have to - *gasp* - press a button on the fob to unlock the doors :)

You may be thinking of the Tesla Model S ebarneyr. It's supposedly going to have some kind of "proximity" locks. So in theory you'll be able to walk up to your locked car, open the door, buckle up and drive away, all with the key fob in your pocket. Of course how it functions in real life won't be determined for several months yet and you won't have the fabulous exterior or the range extender like you do with the Karma.

There are sub-$30k cars with proximity locks. The Suzuki I rented in Sydney most recently did that with the trunk, for instance. (I forget if it did that with the door locks.) It's not exactly rare or special anymore. :D

I do like it, but it has certain drawbacks, as people keep discovering (specifically, the one person with the key in his pocket walks off for some reason and everyone else forgets that they need to have the key nearby).

Sorry the Karma does not have proximity keyless locks. Have had it for years on various Mercedes, Porsche, VW Touarig, ...even my wife's Prius. It saves my wife having to look in purse to find key to enter car. For a man, a key in a pocket is easy to get. I really like the keyless entry system I am used to...will miss it on Karma. A dealer told me there was a way to choose what I understand was proximity keyless entry into the Karma by selecting it on a submenu. Have seen nothing in owners manual saying this is so!

Well my wife's mini van has it all you do is touch the handle and it opens up when she has her fob in her purse. Same to lock it just touch the handle and it locks. Maybe that is too hi tech for the Karma.

But I had it on a car prior to 2008!
My last car (2007 Jag XK) had that feature but I was not particularly happy about the fact that it was basically unlocked when I was in the immediate vicinity, so if I walked by the car at lunchtime at work or parked it outside my house with my keys on my desk, the car was basically unlocked. I prefer having to affirmatively lock and unlock the car.
