I have had a broken power steering pump for a few weeks now and Adam has been great! I am one of about 20 Karma owners in Toronto who are totally isolated from service close by. The nearest would be Montreal and it's just a hassle to have a car flatbed all the way there and then not having the car for at least a week.
Fortunately a friend of mine was a master GM mechanic so with Adam's help, we were able to go through a list of possible issues. My friend had the power steering pump off its brackets and traced any wiring issues all the way to the harness and frame but didn't find anything. He then hotwired the pump to see if it would work and gave it a whack and it came on but it only lasted for about 20 minutes of driving. We couldn't find any evidence of a chafed wire so it looks like I might need a new pump.
Does anyone know where I can get a new power steering pump? I know Adam's looking into it for me but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone else had one on hand. Supposedly it's the Saturn's pump but we don't have any Saturn dealerships in Canada any longer so it still leaves me with the same problem.
Replacing the pump looks like it won't be a big deal... we had everything stripped and taken out in less than 45 minutes and now that my friend knows how to do it, we're pretty sure we can put it back together.
This type of long distance trouble shooting doesn't always work but it gives new hope to people like us through the kindness of technicians like Adam and Joe.
If anyone has any thoughts on a power steering pump please let me know.
