Both are same group size, should I get the AGM version based on your experience? Why or why not?

NOTE: I live in a cold climate. Car sits for 4 months in garage.

I did have a trickle charger attached this winter, BUT it didn't work (I'm assuming because the battery is just too far gone).

Tried boosting today...car starts...but lost VCM wakeup signal. Then battery dies again very quickly.

So, I'm just buying a new Interstate battery tomorrow.

After it is installed, will I still likely need to reflash VCM or will the newfound voltage from the new BAT probably just bring it back to life?

Battery is really up to you wet battery has maintenance AGM doesn't . I also believe AGM are capable of a deeper charge and discharge cycle. Google the difference to Long of subject to make a post.

If your VCM has lost its wake up signal a new battery won't help. Also after replacing the battery make sure you hear the Tron noise when you put the car in ready mode. The car won't move but you should hear that.
The reflash can be done remotely PM me for details
