Mirrors won't fold now

7801 Views 23 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  BillyO
I turned on the feature to fold the side mirrors in when locking the doors. Worked great for a week. This morning, I unlocked the doors and they didn't fold out.

Drove to get coffee down the street. Turned off the car and went in. Came back, unlocked the car, started it and still, mirrors wouldn't fold back out.

I manually moved them back as I was driving to work 30 miles and didn't want to drive without them in place.

When I got home tonight, I rebooted the car (unplugged main battery cable) and still no go. Anyone else experience this?

I've tried turning the feature on/off and I also tried pushing the button on the command center to no avail.

There was a problem in software versions prior to 6.14.2 that caused the mirror motors to fail. I just got 6.14.2 installed and my dealer replaced the mirror motors and everything works great again.

You may need new mirror motors. The software bug caused the motors to run until they burned out. I was advised not to enable the feature until the bug was fixed. Your dealer should be able to replace the motors for your and upgrade the software.

Is there a complete bug list including which each software update was to address?

No there is not. I sent a message to David Harris requesting that Fisker provide a list of problems fixed/problems still outstanding with each software release but they are unwilling to do so. Instead we are left to guess/speculate/share whatever tidbits we can garner from conversations with Fisker personnel.

Did David Harris actually say no, we're not willing to, or did he just not respond? I don't know why they're so sensitive about it.
Did the 6.14.2 helt much of the errors?

David Harris did respond, saying that we should provide feedback to their customer service team. He didn't seem to understand that channel is currently one way - we provide them with reports on problems we encounter with the Karma, but we never find out if our problems have been fixed, or even acknowledged as being problems.

Very frustrating.

This is a correct statement. Upon power close and stay close for a priod of time, the mirror motors burn out. You'll know as the mirrors can then be moved easily by hand either directions. The power adjustment continues to work and the mirrors will stay put and not move by wind at high rates of speed.

Thank you for your input, Erik. It's nice to see some people with relations to Fisker, as employee or as dealer, moving in to provide some information.

We are having discussions about communication with all owners internally. Stay tuned, more information will be coming:

Might I suggest that you get some of us on this forum involved - we're all Fisker enthusiasts and have ideas to share with Fisker on how communication can be improved! Maybe host an Elluminate session or private conference call.
This is the kind of info Fisker needs to be putting out without us calling them. If not having 6.14.2 and using folding mirrors causes motors to burn out they need to let us know that and any other costly faults because it is wasting money for them. I would think this would be obvious. It seems to me that there simply is no one in control of Fisker Automotive. As much as I love my car, I feel that the company is slipping back into its lack of customer commitment and seeing as Project Nina is going nowhere, the company is doomed to fail if they do not immediately correct their abysmal customer performance. How many times do we need to mention it here and to Customer Support before something is actually done. Supposedly, they were working on a fix for the washer fluid reservoir vent issue, what is the status of this? I should not have to call customer support everyday, but maybe that is what I need to do, and maybe what I will start doing. Regardless, I feel that my Karma is going to be rare indeed, seeing as I don't see Fisker making it. I would not, in good conscience, recommend anyone purchasing it because of the poor customer service.

This is an interesting statement indeed. I am one of the original deposit holders (#354) who dropped out and got my deposit back, not because I saw Fisker failing, but because I lost my job and spending 100K+ on a car was not the prudent thing to do. However, job prospects are back up, and i am really jealous of those who have the cars now, but also very nervous about plunking down funds on a new one (in stock or ordering one). I have requested Fisker that if I want to re-engage my interest in buying a Karma, can i get the original pre price increase pricing. I would hope the answer to that would be yes. That to me would be the commitment I would like to see for someone who, until recent downsizing drove me to cancel, had been loyal for 4 years since my deposit. It does put me in a hard place though reading all the issues and knowing that if I take one that's stateside now, I have a car that's got known issues with some fixes. If I order one, i'm waiting for months to get it most likely. Also killing me is deciding on the color choice. Now that all the colors except Laguna have been displayed on the forum, I'm having even more trouble deciding on a color! I must say that the dune monotone on a white or a silver wind car to me would be great, but haven't seen any pics of those yet. Wish me luck in my decision, and I hope you all get a confidence booster in the very near future from Fisker!

I have now had my Karma since December 22nd. Aside from the time the car was at the dealership, I have thoroughly enjoyed my car. If nothing changed, I would still love my car. Knowing that there will be improvements in the SW, I am exceptionally happy with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this car to anybody that would be interested.
Cheers,
Hokiebird, I don't think there's an abnormally long wait ahead of you if you choose to order one. I placed my order 12/30/11 and have been told to expect it in early April. I have a VIN, am in final assembly as of last week and should be ready for a boat sometime next week. The clock doesn't even start until the 15th of the month when Fisker does their order allocations. Perhaps I got lucky, but I think you're probably only looking at a 3-4 month delivery cycle which is pretty typical (or even quick) when ordering a car from Europe.

... and perhaps like so many others, my date will slip, but as of now signs are good I'll have mine in time for Spring.

I love the car too, despite all its faults, but I fit the early adopter profile so I have had a life filled with glitchy BIOSes that need updated, etc. For the average low-tech, rich person interested in a beautiful car with an eco-statement the car simply is not going to fly the way it is. It is a simple matter of transparency, or a lack thereof. If they knew Remote Cabin Preconditioning was not enabled and the Solar Energy screen was not functioning they should have declared it in a small addendum sheet to come with the Owner's documentation. I hate to say it, but I think they are open to lawsuits/lemon laws for not disclosing known faults with the car. I am beginning to wonder if they will ever be able to get all the systems functioning properly, or if it is a matter of exceding the limitations of the CAN bus and that they will never be able to get it right.
I called Customer Affairs today to ask if they have any information about the faults that I converyed to my dealer in an e-mail which he says he forwarded to Fisker. I was told that Consumer Affairs does not have visibility on that as that would have gone to Tech Support. WTF?
I am waiting to hear something back. My issues were small, simple and mostly already identified: wash fluid reservoir vent line, vibrating heat shield, lack of remote cabin preconditioning, solar panel display, software upgrade, and damage to my window chrome and driver floorboard upon delivery.
This request that everyone call Fisker Consumer Affairs to find out answers is a costly waste of time for Fisker.

Agree its good to get some "Fisker" input ....Harris seems very selective in what and how he responds so as far as corporate goes this is a joke if it was not for this forum we would be totally lost which is where the company seems to be right now.

David,

It has been more than a week since you posted on this. Do you have any updates for us on Fisker's plan for improving owner communication?

Getting back to the "mirror" thread...

Yesterday I pulled into the garage, got out of the car, locked her up (as everyone keeps suggesting), and plugged in the 110V charger. I went over to the PV inverter to see just how much juice Karma was pulling (about 12-15 amps), and I heard the normal noises as the juice-puller began doing its thing. After a minute or two, I started to walk in the house, when all of the sudden I heard an electric motor begin. I thought, "Ok, it must be the battery fans that I've read about," although it was about 20 degrees outside. And then I saw the mirrors fold in. All by their little selves. Ghosts? Gremlins? Software demons?
