After 2.5 years of driving, BAM....I had my first issue! And it sounds serious. Got a message of 'Limp Failure' and then 'reduced performance'

Called the Garage here in Belgium, but they said that the Fisker technician comes only on Mondays and that it is safe to drive until then...even if under-powered

Just wanted to check -> Is it really ok to drive?

I searched the forum and saw others who suffered the same, but some of it sounded serious and some disappeared with a reset. I had still 20km of battery and over 300Km with gas left. And now I wonder, when I drive home from work will the car still drive once the stealth miles are gone?

If it is a misfire in the ICE engine and it shut down, typically the fuel gauge will drop to 0 and turn red and you will only have EV power and you will run off battery only until it dies. This WILL harm the hv battery. Let the car reset, power it down 5 minutes or more, then restart and engage sport mode and listen for engine to fire. If it runs, you're ok to keep driving if it wont run, you can only drive until battery range hits 0. DO NOT DRIVE FURTHER WHEN BATTERY GAUGE HITS RED.

Thanx for your reply.

I was driving in Stealth when this happenned and I never switched to Sport mode as I wasn't sure of the effect.

Whenever I stop the car and restart, I see the kms for Stealth and Sport and they are not zero.....a few seconds later, the error message on "reduced performance" shows up and I can't see the km's anymore.

I performed the reset during my lunch break and the error message did not return immediately...but the engine light stays on. Dunno if I should be woried about it or not.......

Anyway, I'll try your suggestion when I leave for the day. If the Engine fires, I'll drive....if not I'll leave the car, otherwise I'll need a flatbed :(

After a couple of visits to the garage, I finally received the fault codes. They are on electrical engine B:
P167400
P167500
P0A4600

Anyone can help decipher these codes? Thanx in advance!

Take the 00 off of the end of those numbers and you can look up what it is.

Evap, and an electric motor sensor are complaining.

Faults are in the Drive motor B circuit, either a communication issue with the power inverter module or the motor itself (most likely inverter). Depends on how often it happens or if it is intermittent. Also, need to know if the car has had full baseline 510 software done, (and just because the dealer or a database said it was done, doesn't mean they flashed all the software). Part of the 510 software includes updated Inverter module software that solves communication codes like the ones you have. The only way to know if inverters have latest sw is to connect a Fisker scan tool and read the software ID's. PM me if you need further help, I can send you a scan tool if you aren't nearby anyone who has it.

Thanx for your responses.

I guess my dealer in Belgium has the tool. Will check your suggestion with them.

That said, I sneaked a view on a mail from the dealer to Fisker this Tuesday and saw that the response from Fisker was related to the inverter and they suggested to do a reflash of 510 and then a load test(whatever that means)

Hi Everybody,

I'm back with the never ending saga on reduced performace :( In the last year, I've received multiple explanations from my dealer and seems each time they updated the software and claimed that it is resolved. A year later....its still not!

After the last software update, I had 2 months without issues and then again it restarted and now it occurs about 2-3 times a week at least. And a reset doesn't always work. And I find myself stranded by the highway many a time in frustration. Has anybody successfully resolved this issue?

10 days ago when it occurred, I took it to my dealer and got the truth. They don't know what to do and never really took any action. But they would like to help and claim that they never receive word from Fisker/KA on their query on this. And when requested the codes, they eventually after keeping the car all day gave me a USB with a lot of data. And I must confess, I don't know what to look and understand in these extensive files. Can one of you help me? Here is the link -> https://onedrive.live.com/?id=1BBC4733B5639999!8707&cid=1BBC4733B5639999

Thanx!

Do you lose the ability to use ICE? If so, it's a big deal as I just had this done with my car. It's possible the damper assembly and coupler shaft will need replacing. This will require the whole engine to be removed. Assuming you can get this under the warranty program, Fisker should cover most of the costs (cost around $3,500).

Worn/broken Gen coupler. Most common telltale is if it throws the error when ICE comes on particularly under heavy load from a stop, or during long steady drive on highway like more than 1/2 hour. But based on the fact you say it's getting progressively worse, that's synonymous with a coupler.
Good luck, it's quite a job. We just did another last week.

Thanx for your response Jam 22. Indeed, the paddle to shift to sport mode does not work anymore.

Ok, will pass the message to the dealer. Thanx

Thanx FiskerPhilly. Actually, it comes up mostly when I'm on Stealth mode....I rarely use the ICE actually. So no, there is no load...but its broken anyway :( Did you realise this analysis based on the files provided? Could you help indicate where it showcases this? I ask because the dealer will ask me the same :)

Will try and request the dealer to fix it. Hope they know how to do it. Will keep you posted.

Thanx once again. All of you in this forum are my last resort!

Why you don't go to Kroymans in Hilversum. In Zaventem, there is only one man who works on monday, so the service is very limited. When you go to Hilversum, they have at least 2 persons who work every day on Fisker cars... They have lots of experience and give a very good service! I do not say Zaventem is bad, but 1 guy working only on monday is very poor... I am very confident that Fisker Hilversum can help you. Grts Wim, belgian Fisker owner

Thanx Wim......would love to exercise that option, but my car would not get there on Stealth alone. I've reset my car like 20 times today and it jumps to the Limp fault immediately. So, my best option is Zaventem

Also, Zaventem is still servicing the car without charging me....doubt Hilversum would do that. Or can I goto any dealer not just the one I purchased the car from?

Does the failure happen when accelerating or braking or hitting a bump in the road? If so, the battery cable may be loose on the terminal.

To access the battery, you need a jack. It's hidden under the right front fender.

Well, we are always accelerating or braking or hitting a bump while driving..... :)
Thanx, will have the battery cable checked too.

Just dropped my car at the dealer in Belgium, but they didn't have the coupler in stock. Kroymans in Hilversum confirmed they have the stock....so fingers crossed in the next couple of days, this saga might finally be concluded....

I had the reduced power light, and very slow acceleration with a 40 mph top limit. Had to be flat bedded into the Montreal CSP. They were great. Turned out to be a leaking coolant line servicing the RDM. The coolant (Prestone) apparently comes from a reservoir under the hood. If its low or empty, that may be your problem.
My leak was right at the RDM. A new hose from Finland cured the problem.

Just curious, the one readout shows misfire codes and no other HCU codes, but there is another list of codes showing Drive motor B control module faults. Are these drive motor codes still coming up? Or is it only showing the misfire codes?
