You mean kWh?

I've never quite managed to run my battery down to 0 miles since I got the Blink charger; I think the lowest I came was 4 miles. It took a hair or two under 20 kWh to charge that time, if I remember right.

I run my battery down to 0 miles every day that I commute, and it consistently takes 19.0 to 19.5 KWH to charge it all the way back up.

So I think the data above indicates the Karma's 20.1kwh battery isn't the "usable" portion - rather that must be the 'total capacity' of the battery. As we know from Fisker, 15% of the battery is kept on reserve to prevent bricking and extend battery life. So it would seem we get the full "up to 50 miles" of range on 17ish kwh. Does 1-2kwh of charging loss seem about average?

Yes it seems reasonable to assume that loss, and also the start up surge takes some more KWh as well as the cycling that may occur while charging. To use a figure of 20KWh is a good assumption, so depending on how much your electricity rates are, you can calculate how much it costs to charge. Here in Ontario, Canada, night time rates are around 7 cents per KWh where I live, so I pay around $1.40 to charge the car each day. Even if it's rounded to $2.0 it's not that bad at all compared to price of gas. But then again, let's not fool ourselves guys. We paid good money to buy these cars and one could easily argue that we paid the price of gas for next few years all upfront in the price of the car, lol!!!!. Same goes with the Tesla. No regrets though, I love the car but it ain't and was never cheap to own.

I NEVER bought the car to save on gas, I bought the KARMA for it's looks and the expected fine craftsmanship from a FAMOUS designers, with a experienced Team from BMW that was to utilized proven Military grade electric technology to provide more torque than a Bugatti and built at a quality plant in europe that built the Porsche Boxster - That's what I bought when I put my deposit down! Oh a what a plus that it would get better MPG as my everyday drive ;-)
