I was an inch away from ordering a Corvette Stingray when I saw the Karma in a movie, and realized the err of my way! This looks exactly like the car I've been wanting.

I found one for sale at an exotic car dealership about 2 hours away (Eclipse color), and I'm planning a trip tomorrow (Wednesday) to see it in person and test drive it.

Any suggestions on what I should look for, or ask the dealership? My biggest concern is service, since the nearest certified service center is about 300 miles away, but what should I look for to make sure there aren't any problems with the car?

i drove the stingray on a race track few weeks back,
the car interior and exterior is pretty amazing for a vette,
engine power in a straight line and sound is very impressive, so does the value you get for the price..

BUT... the car is very anemic on the corners, even on a race track using track mode, you won't hear the tires screaming, you won't feel the steering wheel feedback because it's on "mute mode" ;)

if you want a fun race car get a Porsche, if you want to drive in style - Fisker is highly recommended!

You definitely want to be aware of any dash lights (like the CEL) that appear when you drive the car. Also check for any unusual noises like rattling when in Sport mode. Ask if the battery has been replaced/fixed, the low temp fan, and if all other bulletins have been serviced on the car. You should also ask what software version is running.

There's a thread in here called buyers checklist - or something like that - make sure to check it out! Also, if you can get a tech like HarleyGuy or Lormax to look at it first, its a nice reassurance. There are lemons out there and you don't want to end up with one! Some of the bad VINs are listed on here too, so at the very least, search that and look at the buyers checklist.

Use this link to get to the Buyer's Checklist thread. I agree with @Roberta'sKarma about having one of the experts, such as @Harleyguy, @FiskerPhilly, or @Lormax perform a complete pre-purchase inspection of the car and access the car's repair records before making the final decision to purchase a particular specimen.

Thanks for all the feedback! I went to look at it, and you guys are right, it's definitely awesome. I'm planning to pick it up tomorrow.

The VIN on this one is 0698, and it has 9,380 miles on it. The owner of the company said that they did replace the second battery when it got to the lot (he implied that there's a big battery and a small one, and the small one is the one he replaced? I might have misunderstood, though). I didn't get to log in until late, though, so before I pick it up I'll find out about the traction motors, cooling fan, muffler, and software.

I drove around for awhile in neighborhoods and shortly on the interstate, using both Stealth and Sport mode, and didn't recognize any weird sounds, so I think those issues are OK. With it being close to 10k miles, I'm hoping most of the little quirks are already fixed.

There's one thing that I haven't seen mentioned, though: the tires seemed pretty worn on the outside, but had a ton of tread on the inside. The owner of the lot said that they had had a few Fiskers and they all did that: true or false? Is there an alignment issue to worry about?

I'm buying for $65k (an EcoSport), which seems like a very good price. Should I try to negotiate new tires because of the wear?

Thanks again, guys, I don't know how I overlooked those before! I sent an email to verify that those critical problems have been fixed, and if all goes well then I'll be the proud owner of a Fisker Karma in about 12 hours :)

hey bud.. Look into getting one of the new ones on ebay that have the MSO.. You can get some good deals still. You might be able to get a new one for 65k plus $7500 tax credit.. Rather do that with a high vin than a used one with 10k.. just my .02

Good luck with your decision. Whichever one you get, you're in for something special.

Lowball the dealer...these things aren't exactly flying off the showroom floor. Total buyer's market.

Momo, I thought about that, too, but I like that this one comes from a dealer with a tech that's experienced with Fisker. And they could finance it at 2.5%, so that's even better.

So, I did pick it up today! So far, I'm tickled to death. I traded my Solstice, and miss it already, but still, you can't beat the Karma. I felt like the dealer really bent over backwards to make me happy, so I feel good about the whole thing.

Driving it took a little getting used to. Coming from the Solstice and my GF's Pontiac G8, I'm used to touching the gas and taking off. With the Karma, I have to really give it some gas before I even move! Once I got used to it, though, I was whipping in and out of traffic like a pro :)

I'm pretty sure the Solstice uses the same wheezy GM 2.0L, 4 banger EcoTec Turbo engine as the Karma. Oh, the sweet irony. :)

Enjoy her. And oh - pics or it never happened !!

Pics are on the phone, so I'll transfer them to the PC tomorrow evening (Friday) and post one or two :) We're having a local event tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to driving by and watching a few people break their necks to look! LOL

The tech told me two things about those critical fixes, though, that I guess I should double check with you guys:

Cooling fan – One of the cooling fans in the ICE area was prone to failure, causing the infamous fires in Texas and California; all Karmas should have had the fan replaced
The tech said that when the A123 battery was replaced, they were to remove this faulty cooling fan entirely; I guess leaving two fans, where there were originally 3. True?

Muffler – Fisker switched muffler suppliers from Stillen to Bosal in VINs starting roughly at [1,000]; Bosal mufflers are more robust and have a much lower failure rate
This one hasn't been replaced, but he said that they updated the clips that held the muffler in because the clips were faulty, not the muffler itself. Is that right?

Solstice is a "slug" off the line and it weighs approx 1/2 the weight of the Fisker.

Congrats on the new car looks great!
The new "vette stingray " is a beautiful car as well. You couldn't have gone wrong with either choice.

Sorry I would of bought the Vette I miss my C6
Now, don't get me wrong, I loved the Vette! But it had a few major problems for me:

1. I specifically wanted a green convertible, stick shift, which meant special order. Best case scenario, I'd get it in mid-2015. Even then, it was questionable because (apparently) they're not having the Lime Rock Green in 2015.

2. I'm already seeing a few new Vette convertibles around town, which kinda bugs me. I like being unique. Granted, none of them are green or stick shift, but still.

So yeah, I do realize I'm giving up a few things; 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, convertible, stick shift... taking curves on a rail... But I think I'm making up for it in uniqueness and style.

Which tech is this? I ask because it sounds like information coming from someone that hasn't really worked on the Karma before.

The cooling fan(s) were part of the cooling fan recall, which came out well after the HV Battery recall. The only thing that was part of the recall was to remove the 2 smaller existing fans, install a new updated fan on the passenger side with an in-line fuse and install a dummy connector end to the driver side to trick the car into thinking the fan was still there.

I'd love to know what he means by muffler clips. The original center exhaust itself was the problem, not some 'clips'. Fisker came out with an updated version of this part later on. New manufacturer, new design, 100% a better part.

Well, keep in mind that I'm relaying information given to me several hours earlier, in the midst of a lot of other conversation, so I could have misunderstood. I have to totally libel the guy if I'm just an idiot.

They've been great about returning calls and emails, though, so I'm going to forward this to him and see what he says. I'll keep you posted in another thread; I might have more questions about upgrading the exhaust, anyway.
