Forty years?? All this shows is how long they've taken and still have yet to actually follow through.
They are on their second generation of (low-volume) production cars, the Mini-E and the Active-E. They definitely deserve credit for researching the technology and trying to push the limits with concept cars that were not commercially feasible but definitely advanced the state of the art. I don't think BMW wants to be in the speciality niche business. They will only fully commit o an EV or EVer when they can sell many thousands of them all over the world.

State of the art?? They've done some good work with carbon fiber manufacturing. But every major car company does fancy concept cars. Regarding EVs it's been a lot of lease only toe-dipping with conversions. That said, I look forward to the i3 and i8 when they get to market.
