Ice starts up when I turn on the car in stealth

For the past two days I've seen a combination of issues. Today the ice turned on every time I stared the car even though I had 36 miles of electric and selector in sleath mode. Interesting was that the day befor every time instated the car the command center would not display the "agree" screen and it took several start and stop to get the car to finally start up. I have 6.28, anyone see something similar? I have 2000 miles. Also my mpg has stayed at 109 even though I've been charging the car and run in stealth mode for more then 80miles.

ICEd or not ICEd?

I experienced the ICE starting up in Stealth mode under 628 a few times. It seemed that if I had not used the ICE in 48 hours or so, it would come on when the car had plenty of EV Charger and run for a couple of minutes and then shut itself off. I think this is one of the issues specifically addressed in 510. I have only had 510 for a little over a week so I don't have a lot of data, but it seems like the ICE issue is resolved.

Good to know, won't be updating till they get my back ordered seal for my driver door - over 4 weeks now :-(
The ICE is programmed to come on briefly periodically in order activate monitoring of emission control systems as mandated by the government. It will also come on if the gas cap has been removed.

You don't even have to remove the cap, just open the fuel filler door and it will come on. I managed to push both trunk and fuel door buttons with my knee the other day, and the gasoline engine ran as a result.

I haven't accidentally hit the wrong button with my finger yet, but I agree with the suggestion (from whoever it was) that putting the trunk and fuel-door switches further apart would help.

True, but it seemed that 628 was causing that to happen too often and they had to tweak the algorithm to have the ICE operate only when needed.
Exactly what Mike_D said, the ICE will come on periodically when needed to check on emissions systems. If you do a lot of short driving and turn the vehicle off before it can complete this check (while the engine is running), it will try again next time you turn the car on. Takes usually 5 minutes or so, just let it finish it's self-check.

come to think of it, it did happen after i accidentally push the gas cap instead of the trunk -- okay then will 5.10 will fix this? or should i assume; open gas cap, engine turns on?

Opening the fuel filler door is one of the events that triggers the control computer to run the ICE emissions sequence. It is the expected behavior.
Driving in stealth this morning ICE turned on, and off and on again several times and then stayed on that way for another 10 miles of driving. After I turned the car off and came back after an hour that issue disappeared. It was weird.
My ICE has been turning on more frequently since the cold weather began. Don't know if it's actually related, but it is certainly noticable. Maybe it has to do with the heater or perhaps engine fluids react accordingly to temperature.
mine has turned on at one time, switched back to stealth manually

I've noticed that too, wasn't sure if it was the cold weather or 510. But it is much more frequent, and not related to use of gas, as I primarily drive in stealth and have plenty of range when it comes on.
Driving this morning with the ICE. Needed gas. Took 8.2 gal. Started up and the ICE came on immediately. I drove off, and in 20 seconds or less the ICE stopped and I drove home, 5 miles, on electric. No strange warning lights, just perfection.
I've also noticed that the ICE is running more frequently even when I'm in stealth mode recently. I wonder if the Karma senses the pressure (vapor pressure) in the gas tank as a way of sensing that the gas cap is open, or that the ICE needs to be run for an emissions test, etc. If pressure were a trigger, then the colder weather could explain why it's been set of more frequently these days.
my car was in parke for a while in stealth, suddenly the gasengine went on, tried turn off and on, still gas engine
Just let the engine run and do it's self test. Turning the car off then back on while the engine is doing the self test won't stop it from trying to do the self test. It's simply waiting to try again next time you turn it on.
I've noticed it as well. I just consider it part of cycling the engine, and as other's have responded, its likely connected to the emissions program.
