Wanted to say hello and collect opinions on reliability.
I live in Miami Beach. Just put a deposit on a Fisker Karma.
Dealer located in Houston Texas.
My son and I want to drive the car( I know I can have it shipped but I don't see much fun in that) from Houston to Miami Beach. What are the odds of a brand new Fisker with 18 miles making the 1400 mile trip without leaving us stranded in a place where no one has ever heard of this car? http://fiskerbuzz.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I've driven mine almost 1400 miles in about a month and have not had any serious problems with it. Almost half of those miles (something over 600) were done in one day, driving from SLC to Zion National Park and back. (I have had a number of minor software glitches, stuff like "iPod stops being recognized as iPod" or "phone bluetooth doesn't connect". Had once instance of "touch screen never gets past Fisker logo, need to turn off car and wait 2 minutes and try again.")
Thanks that helps ease the fear of the unknown...
I noticed CT- is in your ID are you in connecticut? I was interested in buying a car from Miller motors where I bought my Maserati but they could not come close to the Texas dealer.

No, "CT" is my initials :D

(I live in the Salt Lake City metro area)
Reliability is no longer an issue with the newer cars, so I wouldn't worry about taking that trip. Even most older cars seem to be pretty reliable, except for the occasional software glitch. I have one of the first cars, built in September 2011, and in 11,500 miles it never left me stranded.
Makis,
I'm wondering, why you are putting your deposit in Houston.

Talk to Robert Manrique of Fisker Miami. He is a very nice guy and he was very helpful, to get me a car in Germany. I did my test drive over there.

Stefan
I drove mine 7 hours straight (650km) when collected, rained heavily al the way. no problems
Makis,
If not a secret, what are you paying for the car ( and what trim are you getting) in Texas that you are willing to schlep it all the way to Miami instead of just getting it in Miami?

I have been working with a sales person with Fisker in Miami.
Unfortunately the price difference is too huge to ignore (huge as in tens of thousands)

Eclipse with Glacier tri tone Eco Chick. Not the combo I would have picked but the car is new in inventory with 18Miles on the clock. Cant resist a bargain. Car has the fan recall done and the 6.28 software upgrade. 25 grand off MSRP.

Great deal, are they liquidating inventory?
One thing to be aware of - make sure Fisker Miami will still service your Karma. The dealership model for Fisker is different than the Tesla-owned strategy, so dealers may be reluctant to service your car if you didn't buy it there.
Not sure the reason this car went in the low 80's
I sent a friend of mine to the same dealer two days later and the best price he came up with was 93,000
Could be Dealer in a end of month need for cash.
Could be the color combination or it could be in inventory for way too long and it was time to clear it out.
Funny as it may sound I have not seen it in person.
I send a friend who lives in Texas to scope it out.

I have a very good relationship with the local Fisker dealer.
I actually gave him an opportunity to match or come close to the offer I had.
I am attaching a copy of my email to Edwin
Cant think of anything more I could have done...

Edwin
I have an offer to purchase a 2012 Eclipse Chic in the low 80’s (no trade)
I suspect you can’t come close to that number.
I plan to take a look this weekend and purchase it unless you have something comparable.
In either case I do appreciate all yur time and effort to put together a deal.
Plan to use your service department as the dealer is from another state.

TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND OFF THE STICKER PRICE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I'm sorry for shouting, but I'm suddenly appalled at the price I paid for my brand new EcoChic with 20 miles on it.

I understand ...Been there done that. I paid 110,000 for my Maserati Q-porte. My friend bought one six months later for 91,000 ...hurts even more when he shows off his A/C seats..
Well, good news for all of us is that it seems to be a one-off thing... the Cali dealers I know haven't started to discount off MSRP.

That does make me feel a bit better, SoCalGuy.

I never even considered going to a dealer other than my local one (Fisker Santa Monica). Since the Karma is still a bit of a work in progress, I believe having a good relationship with the closest dealer can determine whether owning a Fisker Karma is a dream...or a headache. Besides, the people at Fisker Santa Monica had taken so much time with me (they told me I visited the dealership more times before purchasing the car than any other customer :D) allowing me to test drive the car, teaching me about the car, answering my innumerable questions. After all that, there was no way I was going to turn around and buy from another dealer. That just would not have been fair.

I would love to meet up!!!! I'll send you a private message with my cell phone number.

As for pictures...I've taken a handful with my iPhone, but haven't uploaded them to the computer yet. I've been nursing my Great Dane through neck surgery, entertaining a recently divorced friend on her anti-versary, and rounding up data for my accountant because I'm in tax (extension) hell. I should have some pics up by tomorrow though. :D
