I get a bit confused, but the RDM is the culprit of the soft splines no? Or is that the TMs?
TMs have soft splines, RDM has the clip that fails. I can fix any RDM that hasn't already grenaded itself though.
Different than...?
Hey Lormax,

When do the RDM's fail? If we've gotten to a certain mileage can we assume it(and other items) won't fail? Sorry if these questions have already been answered in a thread elsewhere.

Mileage isn't a factor it's the clip that holds the axle in that causes the failure .If it's caught in time we can rebuild the RDM by replacing the clip and some other minor modification's to the RDM
Great news... Does anyone know how much this replacement costs?, Are we better off to hire Lomax or harleyguy direct?
Cost of a new RDM is around 3500-4000, possibly a bit more. That price most likely won't include shipping (Expect 400-1000, depending on where it's going). I base that off of experience.

I can fix a lower serial # RDM and update it to match the current RDM's being sold as long as it hasn't blown itself up internally yet. This can be done MUCH cheaper than replacing an RDM, so please shoot me a PM/Call/Email if you know your RDM is coming out. In my experience, most of the time a traction motor will spin out before the RDM has damaged itself beyond repair, so while the labor is being done to deal with the traction motor problem the RDM can up rebuilt, saving you quite a bit of money on that repair cost.

Speaking of spun out traction motors, expect more information soon about fixes for this as well, saving even more $$ (and considering motors aren't available anyway).
All prices depend on what is needed hard to give a price without knowing what needs to be replaced .Since Lomax is the only one I know of right rebuilding Traction Motors you would have to ask him directly . When I no longer have Traction Motors more then likely I will have to have mine rebuilt and will use Lomax to have them rebuilt .As far as RDM I can rebuild them also .
Does it make sense to do the service as preventive maintenance ?

Not a bad idea too do but it's far from an inexpensive job to do . Very labor intense job to do
