Heres a good shot of the issue that causes the HV module failures. A welder calibration problem at the A123 Livonia plant that causes the Lithium ion to leak. I replaced this module the other day. Take a close look at the right lower corner

Glad to hear. Actually, yours didnt show the leak. This one's out of a car from Boston. As we both know yours was its own challenge though.
I gotta admit those grilles got quite the attention in its time spent up here!

Challenge to say the least. I didn't even get a cheesesteak :( all in all things did work out fine, so that's all I can ask.

I have to get pics of the grills for everyone. Was raining last time I remembered I needed them. Maybe tomorrow.

That's for sure. Joe did always keep me up to date on what was up. He even knew what went wrong before I got back to DC.

I assumed he was talking to other techs :)

We'll have to do another NOVA meet up. It looks like in Virginia, it's only you and I. I would love to hear all the nity gritty on the repairs, and symptoms ....

PM me a good time and date.

Joe told me there is another owner around Alexandria I think. I could always try to get that persons number.

I'll send you a PM later.

Nice pics thanks for sharing,,

can you tell there is a leak without removing the battery?
For the owner Is there specific symptoms need to watch for?

Actually I had another one come up from Leesburg and found out there were several others in that area, many sitting in garages like that one needing service and nowhere to go. Apparently from Capitol Cadillac. I did reach out to the guy there that sold Fisker and gave my info to forward to any of their customers.

Ninja and I are always looking for people in the area to meet up with so if you find them pass them along. We drive our Karmas and like to get them together in parking lots. Mine does look much nicer tho:D

No the battery has to come out of the car the cover needs to be removed . Sometimes you can see the leak other times you need to remove the module . Before we remove the battery we pretty much know which module is at fault . Single module replacement goes a lot easier then multi module replacement .

The hardest part is getting the battery to balance out all the modules when done. A - 123 had all kinds of test equipment which was able to check module condition while the battery was out of the car . My next mission is getting in touch with A-123 and Fisker and seeing what it will take to get one of these testers . I know the price I could of bought one last year but held off not knowing the future .

I reached out to A-123 not to long a go and they didn't answer my emails. To reduce the cost my idea is that Joe and I split the cost if both of our owners will do that and ship it out to who ever needs it.

Interesting. There are some of off-the-shelf units for various lithium cell technologies at this point, e.g.:

http://www.ti.com/ww/en/analog/bq77910_integrated_battery_protection_solution/index.shtml

(no idea how to use this, though the page does say it works with LiFePO4 modules; I can sort-of deal with hardware at need, but I'm not a Hardware Guy...).
