Does anyone know whether the inserts on the armrest/door handle and the center console insert is glass or plastic?

I thought the interior design guy kept talking about the 'glass' in its natural form (ie flat)... it would be funny if these 'windows to the battery soul' are really plastic. Sortof kills the story (plus not as enviro friendly).

They are plastic, but not your average plastic. It seems to be pretty solid and scratch resistant.
I have leaves in my plastic.
You should be proud of your leaves that's one thing not everyone has ;)
Seen a few where someone thought they were being clever and signed their name on it as well.. don't know who that person thinks they are ;)

How hard is the center clear cover to get off? I have a supplier that could make us new clear covers with a small tray. I bet he wouldn't charge more than $20 bucks and he could use the same materials.
If you do, post something about it, I'd probably spring for one and get my dealer to put it in. A tray in that area would be very handy (I don't even have my car yet and it's still obvious how handy it would be!).

Could he make it fit a "big gulp"? (Sorry, I just couldn't resist after this wonderful bottle of wine.) But seriously, the $20 bucks quote must be a typo unless he lives in China?

Plastic? Really?
Glass is great, but not if in a "mishap" shards fly into my eyeball. I'll take good old plexiglass for my window.
Exactly, i don't think NHTSA would allow it to be glass for that very reason.

As for taking it apart: it 's a chore and while the rib panel beneath the window is removable, the window it self is not, it is bonded to the center console "frame" for lack of a better description.

The more storage you have in a car, the more crap tends to accumulate in them. I am fine with the center console, as shallow as it is, and the door pockets. There is really no need to turn every corner of the car into storage for random crap, IMHO.

Of course he's in China! My business is importing/distributing/manufacturing scooters and motorcycles from Taiwan and China, so have a lot of plastic suppliers.

I sent a picture of the Karma's clear window and he said that he could use a factory piece to make a new mold, then recess an area that would act as a tray.

It would look something like the the center consoled of this GM SUV (not the cup holders), only our part would be CLEAR plexiglass with the same quality as the producting piece.

He said he could also make dividers if we wanted them. Something like this:

He said a cover could be added, but the cost would be high to make sure the cover looked like the Karma's fit/finish.
