I still have not been able to figure out why the generator turns on in stealth mode. Today, the car was fully charged, I started it in stealth mode and the generator came on, and stayed on for my entire trip -- 10 miles / 20 minutes.

Out of all the "bugs" this is the one that annoys me the most because I don't want to be forced to use gas when I don't need to.

Anyone been able to figure out how to keep the generator off when the car is in stealth mode?

@EVCast: I had a problem that displayed this symptom early on and it was easily fixed by my dealer. The problem was with a pinched fuel vent line that caused the car's computer to incorrectly sense that the fueling cap had been opened. Each time you open the fuel cap, whether you put fuel in the car or not, the engine comes on for a couple of minutes. If the computer thinks that the gas cap is continuously open, it will just keep running the engine. I don't know if yours is having the same problem but it is definitely one possibility. Are you also getting the "Gas Cap Open" indicator where the analog clock is normally displayed? That would be a strong indicator that you are having the same, or some variation of the, problem I was having.

Also once the engine starts is has to complete a full warm up cycle this is a requirement of the EPA . If the engine just started and shut right off not at operating temperature the exhaust emissions would be to high causing the car to pass any local requirements as far as emissions a lot of this cars design is based on California since they have one of the toughest laws having to do with safety and emissions

Now I understand why my generator sometimes will not turn off. I have a daily commute of 42 miles and a the moment I am getting 40 miles (it's not so warm outside yet), so I turn on the engine for about 2 miles. I do this manually on the highway, as I want to keep 3-4 miles of battery range left for the last bit of city driving. But sometimes when I switch back to Stealth, the engine keeps on running. I thought it was a bug, but now I understand this is caused by the emission requirement. That is a bit weird though, as the engine will surely produce less emissions when I turn it off!

Unless you turn it on again. And then it has another cold start.

exactly, until the catalytic converter comes upto temperature the emissions output is orders of magnitude greater.

I have this same issue but my dealer tells me the ICE will cycle occasionally and it is designed to do this to move fuel/fluids through the lines. I know the Chevy Volt also has this "exercise" mode. Also it is true the EPA required the engine to run through the warm up cycle.
What I have found is I wait a few minuets after the engine has started, switch to sport mode then back to stealth and the ICE will usually shut down.
I now have hit 4000 miles on my car and almost all of it in stealth mode.....so I started to worry about the gas going bad....I topped it off with 4.5 gallons of gas for a grand total of 7.5 gallons in 4 months of driving!
I'm a happy camper with gas near 5.00 a gallon in Chicago.
