Fisker Signature Edition needs a new home

Hello!

Fist a big thanks to all those contributing to the forum. I have been following the Fisker since literally day one and it was really great to see this forum become 'the' place to go for Fisker info. Also it was great to see Fisker do so well at keeping the vehicle true to the concept and to have finally made it into production.

I am holding a very early signature edition model having placed the order just a few hours after they accepted them. At the time the delivery was estimated to be fall of 08 - cleanly not achievable but I figured even if they miss that by a year I would still get good use of the car before making a move from a home to a condo when our son is off to university. I knew going in that charging will be not so easy to find for at least a few years in condo land. Fast forward to now and we are less than a year away from that move and still a month or two anyway before the car arrives here.......

Although I could see it coming for some time I have been really torn about giving up on owning the Karma. Sadly I can see that for myself a plug in electric won't make sense until charging stations in condo's become more common. The good news is that at least here in Vancouver it is coming before all that long - All new construction in the city must include a certain percentage parking stalls with charging stations.

If anyone is in Canada (ideally near Vancouver) and is interested in owning this one please send a PM via the forum. I am sure we can make a plan.

BTW - I was not sure that his would even be appropriate to post this but I have checked to ahead to be sure it was ok.

As an aside I am also curious if for others the interest in electric cars came after you saw the Fisker or if you were into plug in electric cars and discovered Fisker as a result of that interest. Personally I was following the plug in hobby crowd and was planning to build a plug in electric car using an aluminium body Jaguar as the starter car. When I added up the cost to do it up right I figured it would be almost $60K (lithium batteries were really expensive back then! ) and when the Fisker popped up it seemed a no brainer. For $60K I would have a science experiment or for $100K would get the Fisker......

Many Thansk!

John: You may wish to place more details about your SE Karma.
Exterior color, interior design, Ecosport/EcoChic would be helpful.
Do you have a build number and date?
Can a US citizen take over your car?
Will your Karma have the new QUIETER muffler?
Thanks
(PS I am in Alaska)
JSPONSLER, the car is a Signature Edition, therefore it only has one color combo that is unique to the 99 Signature Edition cars, Sliver Mirage exterior (still not sure how it is different than Silver Wind) and Tri-Tone leather Mojave. They are EcoSports and his car should already be built since there was never any delay for color option choices before the needing to place the order. Of course, it seems that everything will be waiting on the new muffler design and EPA qualfying after that. The Signature Editions simply have to have the same system as the regular editions otherwise the EPA data would be invalid.

In regard to your take over of the car, if you mean taking his position, Fisker is under no obligation to honor any secondhand transfers of depositor status; therefore, if it is not being bought in the US by bentaudio, you would have to buy the car from him. Here is a nice website that details the requirements.

bentaudio, perhaps the bloke who wanted to buy mine might be interested in the paperwork shuffle required and you could make a tidy profit. See the thread regarding the guy wishing to buy a Signature Edition.

Hello!

Thanks to kabala70 for answering with very good info! As he states it is one of the Signature cars and so it is only available in one color combo. Also I am sure it will have the same drive train as any other cars shipping this next while.

I did have one fellow PM from the USA already about the car and unfortunately I expect it will only make sense for a Canadian buyer. Cars are slightly different spec wise between the USA and Canada and I think it would be a pain (expensive anyway) to convert this Canadian spec car to USA standards. Also ( I am guessing) the tax credit would maybe not be applicable and likely there are other costs involved tax wise. All in all I would think it would add significantly to the cost to have it end up in the USA - so much so that I can't imagine it really makes any sense....... I did read about the fellow looking for one but I have to guess that for all these reasons it would not really be a good fit. Too bad as he did sound 'motivated' to get one.

Thansk!

Hello!

Just wanted to post an update. I only had a couple local folks show any interest. There were several serious inquiries from the USA and overseas but the car really did have to be delivered in Canada - it has already been ordered as a Canadian spec car. I gave up on finding a new home directly and had to initiate a simple cancel of the order - although the local dealer will want to scoop it for another local customer I expect.

It was Sig Edition #6 - the order placed just a few hours after they began taking orders. I REALLY struggled with the decision to cancel as I am very impressed at how far Fisker has come since those early days. I always knew the timeline was not realistic but it was a bit disappointing to have it drag on this long. Two years ago I had some window where we would make good use of the car and a year ago I could have talked myself into it still but now there is just not enough time to use it as it was intended before we make the shift into a condo (with no plug...) next spring.

Best of luck to all you lucky guys who still have them on the way and have fun with them!

Thansk!

I am seriously debating about putting up my Signature Edition too, if it makes you feel any better.
