Karma production is now 25 units a day and may rise to 60 a day next year, said Fisker, 48, a vehicle designer who has styled cars for Aston Martin and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW)’s BMW.

He declined to say how many Karmas will be delivered in 2012.

“We’ve built just over 1,000 cars, and are up to a pretty steady run rate of 25 cars a day,” he said. “Next year we’ll start taking that up higher as sales build up.”

That sounds great, but it is Henrik talking. :dodgy:

Yeah, they make 25 that day, wait a week for the paint to dry, then they do another batch of 25. :)
Yeah, I was wondering why, if they really are now building 25 cars per day, mine that was scheduled to be completed 12/19 has had that date moved twice. It will now be finished 12/29 at the earliest.

My guess is they are not getting enough orders to build 25 a day now and aren't willing to build many on spec until they can judge the demand. They have never mentioned more than 3000 deposit holders and haven't ever quantified how many of the original deposit holders have actually chosen a configuration. We can only speculate. Fisker's silence says something, you just don't know what. It does demonstrate the economy of using Valmet rather than building an assembly plant that could be idle from time to time.

I talked to two different people at Fisker today as I was trying to find out why my car was delayed. Both confirmed that they are completing 25 cars per day, and one said that they have 1500 cars in the assembly pipeline. So they are not lacking orders.

It turns out the problem is still with Deep Ocean and the other colors that were previously delayed. They are still having issues with getting those color cars to pass their quality check on the paint finish.

If they really are building 25 a day, that's only 60 days production if they truly have 1500 in the queue. I'm not buying anything they say based on their history. If they do have 1500 confirmed orders in addition to the 1000 they have produced that means they've had a net loss of about 500 orders over 3 years,

I don't interpret "Fisker has 1,500 cars in assembly right now", which were the exact words in the email, as equivalent to "Fisker only has 1500 cars left to build to fulfill all existing orders", which is your interpretation. If they had 100,000 orders, they couldn't possibly be building them all at once.

I'm just glad that they have the factory geared up now to produce 25 cars per day, and their build process allows them to have 1500 cars at some stage of assembly simultaneously. Hopefully they will have ironed out any issues in painting Deep Ocean and the other colors soon. Then the customers who didn't purchase black/white/silver/shadow will start getting their cars. That would include me. :D

It could mean they have ordered 1500 space frames. I'm just through thinking anything is going very well with production as the results have so far been nothing like their pronouncements (even short term.) If the number of orders they are getting was really impressive, I think they would be releasing the information, but who knows? The information flow from Fisker is flat perplexing.
