It's usually a Crack in the main housing at the weld. The sealer on the cover is just for dust. There is no coolant in the motor only an internal jacket or chamber surrounding the copper stator reference points where the hoses connect.
the cover can't leak.
check the welds
it can be TIG welded carefully

I've also repaired these likes without mig welding the cracks I use an two part expoxy that's even used and approved by Jaguar for this type of repair Jaguar has a problem with there engine blocks leaking .
You can contact me if you like but you need to locate the leak if it on the bottom you can drain the traction motor and repair it in the car other wise if up top the unit needs to be dropped down to access the motor

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I'll have a second deeper look this week. I may use DP Test to locate the crack.
