situation driving at 7pm pst this evening and for the second time in two weeks at 70 miles per hour the "idiot lights" behind the steering wheel all light up the car goes dark including the headlights and then the dash disappears and after a few seconds it rebuilds itself. This is very dangerous and random. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what have you done about it. This condition is a safety issue and an accident/lawsuit waiting to happen.

I have heard of the dashboard going dark and then restarting -- this is the first time I have heard about the headlights going out. Yikes! This may be another "bad connector" problem, like the one that was plaguing my car with different symptoms. You may want to have the dealer check all the connections to whatever module controls the dashboard and driver controls, including the headlights for proper connection and Silicon integrity.

That's scary. I'd return the car to the dealer for a thorough check up before driving it again. There must be a real issue with a connector at the battery or something similar for it to totally reboot like that.

Did you lose power steering/braking? Did the car continue to accelerate? Would like to know if this was a systemwide failure/reboot or something associated with ancillary systems like speedo, headlights, etc.

I was not in a situation that required hard or sudden braking so not sure of the full answer but it did continue to accelerate at a normal rate, it does a complete rebuild right in front of your eyes while still moving at a high speed

This happened to me 5 times in 4 days last week. Sometimes twice on the same drive. All were during the daytime so I don't know if the lights were affected. The car drove normally other than the blackout. It began after updating to 6.14.2.

I do not have 6.14.2 , was waiting for 6.15 but now I am not sure I would even drive the car other than around the corner.

I also experienced one dash lights blackout during the day in my 5 days and 200 miles of ownership. It ws short and then just corrected itself.

have you reported your incidents what have you been told?
I reported the incidents to my dealer as soon as each one happened. I also stopped by the dealer immediately after one of them. They did a hard reboot of the car and then sent emails describing the event to tech support.

Last night I received a call from a Fisker rep who wanted to discuss the incidents and make sure the car drove properly during the problem. He gave me his direct line and told me to call him if I had any other issues to report. He mentioned 6.15 will be released shortly. We had a good conversation and he mentioned how the culture has changed since Mr. Lasorda has taken over. He said the engineers have been put on notice to correct the software issues asap and that Mr. Lasorda is not the type to mince words. I also heard this from my dealer. I was pleasantly surprised to receive the call and think it might indicate a new direction in customer service for Fisker.

I also should mention I haven't had the dash blackout or any other issues in a week now.

As you know, I no longer have my Karma, but I check back here periodically to see how things are going. I am still hopeful that someday these issues will get settled.

The "blackout" issue is a very real threat to the safety of the driver of the Fisker that "blacks out," but also a very real safety threat to oncoming traffic. This issue should be immediately reported to the NHTSA. This obviously concerns more than one car and needs to be dealt with.

The patience that most of the owners have shown with Fisker absolutely amazes me.

I agree. Smaller things than this get reported to NHTSA. A frozen (or blacked out) speedometer is bad enough (though manageable if you're cautious), but loosing your headlights at the wrong time could be fatal.

How long does it take for the headlights to come back on?

I am curious if losing the headlights has to do with loss of the sensor for Auto Mode. I have not yet experienced loss of headlights, but the first thing I would try if I did would be to put them in Manual mode to see if they return. If they did I would suggest driving with them in Manual mode all the time. The Auto headlight mode does not work so well in rainy enivronments, i.e. does not sense the need for them to be on, so I have resorted to not using it and burning my lights at all times. I have done this with my Subaru WRX Wagon and have the same headlights for over ten years and 75000 miles.
