I recently looked into buying the new Range Rover Hybrid, but thought it was a waste of time as your maximum range on battery was one mile (what is the point?!) Recently on a visit to NY I was a passenger in an Escalade Hybrid, A 6.2 litre engine and saving the planet at the same time, or is this too good to be true. Anyone give me some ideas at what I should be looking to replace my ageing Range Rover, which by the way runs on LPG.

There are also these concepts that may be coming down the road:
BMW X5 PHEV, VOLVO XC90 PHEV, VW CROSSBLUE PHEV.
And of course the OUTLANDER and the Model-X.
The Outlander is in the hands of lucky folks in Japan and the Netherlands.
I need an SUV (kids and live in Alaska) and the first of these beasts to hit the New World I will buy.
The RAV4EV is not 4 wheel drive and so would not do well in Alaskan winters.
I am also worried about those weird gull wing doors on the X.
