Tesla has just announced the grand opening of their new Palo Alto show room, literally next door to the former Fisker Silicon Valley dealer.

And I am sure it is pure coincidence that their sketch on the wall bears a strong resemblance to this sketch:

Well played, Elon Musk, well played.

...and then we'll find out next week that Elon bought FA on his PA... and will offer Karma owners a free trade-in program for the MS.

The Grand Opening is this weekend. They will have the Model X SUV design prototype on display.

I thought Fisker Silicone Valley was still in business I know they still service cars I know one of the techs he also services McLaren
They have taken down all their Fisker signage, but they still sell and service Fiskers. Officially, they are a McLaren/Volvo dealer.

That would be a real tragedy, actually. I am hoping that whoever ends up buying FA would ramp production back up rather than just crush the brand.

I don't see Tesla buying Fisker, but I would be OK with it if he continued Karma production. The Karma would have to sell at a higher price than the Model S, which would make sense as it visually appears to be a much more expensive car and it has an ICE. I don't think that Musk would want Henrik's car to be the premium car in his company. It would be nice to have an all electric version that could use Tesla's supercharging stations though.

If it looks like Henrik had something to do with the design of the MS, that's because he did.

While it is highly unlikely that any of Henrik's design cues remain in the Model S, the fact is that he was hired as a consultant to help design the the early days of the Model S concept in 2006-2007. This is when he was running Fisker Coachbuild before FA existed. He argued with Elon over the design, which is why he stopped working on it. Then he started FA as a JV with Quantum Technologies, which is what prompted Elon to ultimately sue FA in the summer of 2008 for "taking" his concept. Telsa and Elon lost that suit because Fisker had a very specific contract that stated clearly he could design cars for anyone else and/or including as part of starting his own company. The new designed that came to Tesla in 2008 started with whatever came before but was likely highly influenced by Elon's expectations.

That Tesla store has been in the works for some time. I thought I posted about it somewhere here a while ago, but perhaps not. It's opening mainly because the Menlo Park store, which has always been on a temporary lease from Stanford, is closing/closed. (Stanford is redeveloping that whole strip of former car dealerships on El Camino across from Safeway.)

Its a shame Fisker wasn't more successful. It would have been cool to see the two brands right next to each other.

That sort of car line sketch is not uncommon.

I agree, and it may yet come to pass. Despite numerous predictions of its demise, FA is still alive and (feebly) kicking, so all is not yet lost.
