Hi, Does anyone have this charger from Clipper creek model LCS-20, 15A, 240V charging, 22′ cord. Would you recommend it? Price seems very good? Would this unit work to reduce charging time to 5 hours vs. the 16 hours at 110v?

I have that model hard wired in my garage. Had it for well over a year now. It works great for me. Charges from zero miles to a full 50 miles in 5 +/- hours.

Oops, I looked again and mine is an LCS-25 which is a 20 amp, 240 volt. They have that model available but it is listed at $514. Don't know if the higher amperage model would be worth it.

If you compute "3300 watts / 240 volts" you get "13.75 amps". One would think this means a 15 amp unit would suffice. However, I learned on this very forum, not too long ago, that a "15 amp" circuit in house wiring really means "80% of 15 amps", i.e., "12 amps", in terms of continuous draw. (That is, your "15 amp" circuit breaker is actually set to "15 amp burst, 12 amp continuous.")

I don't know if this "you must not use more than 80% of the rating" thing applies to the EVSE (the LCS-xx unit) itself, or if that's just a "household wiring only" rule.
