Records indicate that 1464 was originally sold by Atlanta Fisker on March 31, 2012. At the time, the HV battery was targeted for replacement, but there's no indication that it was ever done. But this info is from old records, so a prior owner might have had work done on the battery between then and now.
If not, there's still a 2/3 probability that the OEM battery is OK. That's the percentage of good batteries manufactured by A123 back in the day.
was that A123 did not track the good vs bad, so as a precautionary measure, all of their packs were recalled. The first recall was in December 2011, and the second in March 2012.
was that these battery problems drove A123 into bankruptcy in August 2012, leaving owners dependent on the resourcefulness of service centers to keep Karmas on the road.
There are other issues - involving the drive train and exhaust - that were also addressed by the service centers. Those of us who kept the faith over the years are now being rewarded by having one of the best vehicles cars ever made.
