Default Vcm

Where’s the vcm located? I have the opportunity to purchase one and I was under the impression that it was behind the glove compartment

The VCM is located above the dead pedal. Left side corner under the dash. The CIU is located behind the glove box and that controls the radio, nav and back-up camera to name a few things. Is that what you meant?

If it doesn't come with keys then the VCM is useless

I seam to remember working with Andrew Shewn (spelling) and he had some software that could reprogram ether the VCM or the keys to work together. Maybe things have changed from 2013 days. Hopefully this info helps.

Yea it can be done in Prodis. But if you do not have prodis then you need the keys and VCM as a pair.

Andrew usually programmed the keys then tested them in the lab car. It is much better to get them as a working set vs an unknown VCM and having to source non-programmed keys. That is rolling the dice that it will all work.

There have been people on here that have bought VCM's and then found out it won't work in their car. Personally I wouldn't buy ANY vcm if it didn't come with keys, unless it has been documented that it is a new VCM from lear
