Default Engine heat problems

Hi all,

Hope you are doing fine. I have some issues with the engine coolant system. Seems like the fan won't switch on, even if the temperature is high (boiling water). What I found out so far:
- fan runs if AC is on (but on a lower stage, I assume fan has two stages: slow for AC, high for coolant system)
- the temperature sensor in the engine is on the left side

Questions: is the temperature sensor responsible for switching the fan on? Or is it only for the warn light and there is somewhere else a switch in the coolant system for the fan?

Any chance I can check the fan? And check if the signal from ECU is there?

Thanks for you help.

Best,
Fabi
