Here is something I posted years ago. Many of us connected a permanent port to plug our trickle chargers into.

A very important nite if you are running 535 (latest) software. If the EVSE (wall charger) is connected to the car the contractors will not close to check and trickle charge the 12v battery. Thus in theory (and I've proven it) the 12v battery will still die after sitting several weeks with the HV battery plugged in. You will have a steady 18 mA draw on the 12v system that will kill it after a few weeks give or take depending on the health of the 12v battery. Therefore the built in trickle charge feature thus only works if charging the HV battery fully then disconnect charger and let car sit with nothing connected. It will as @PowerSource mentioned keep closing the connectors and the AMP (dc/dc inverter) will activate to charge the 12v periodically if it is below 11.5 volts. This does cause gradual wear to the contractors. So it is a catch 22 situation. The ultimate question for the cars that sit is 535 or 520 and a battery tender? My opinion go with what works. If 535 is working problem free for you, stick with it. But if you are leaving car plugged into wall charger you'll still need a 12v tender. Alternatively just charge, balance and disconnect it.
If you're having 12v or flashing ready issues then revert to 520 and slap a tender on it and call it a day.
Hope that explains it thoroughly enough.
Happy Thanksgiving all.

Just because the subject appealed to me...

I would NOT recommend leaving it plugged up while you're gone. Last year I had a storm come through and the house power flickered (a common occurrence here). What I didn't know was that the tiny little flicker sent a surge through my garage and fried several modules. The car would still run on gas, but would no longer charge and I had a perpetual CEL replacing the digital speedometer.

Now, if there's a 10% chance of rain then I'm unplugging.

Hi FiskerPhilly,

Thank you for investigating what is really happening.

Can you clarify, is this correct?

535: Plugged-In: trickle charger on: Good
535: Unplugged: trickle charger on: Bad
535: Unplugged: trickle charger off: Good
535: Plugged-In: trickle charger off: Bad

520: Plugged-In: trickle charger on: Good
520: Unplugged: trickle charger on: Good
520: Unplugged: trickle charger off: Bad
520: Plugged-In: trickle charger off: Bad
