Default VCM flash

Approx 1 week ago had an issue with a suddenly dead battery. Pulled battery and charged. Once I placed it back in the car, everything worked well except my display, PRND and gauges would not light up. Pulled battery and took to dealer - it is good (battery is only 4 month old BTW). Based on all the reading on this forum it looks like the VCM needs flashed. Problem is I am 500 miles from a dealer with a car that will not move. I had a friend who works on Ford hybrids remove the VCM and I took it plus the 2 keys to my dealer who usually works on the car.
Based on what I thought I read, I thought the VCM could be sent off to be flashed without the car and was hoping to place it back in, get the car moving so I could take the whole car in. My dealer was saying they need the whole car to flash the VCM. Anyone clarify?
I do not mind bring the car in, just a lot more work to move one that does not want to move on its own where it is parked now
Appreciate any feed back

The VCM has to be put into another car then it can be flashed they dont even need to re program the keys but it is a good idea to have both with the VCM.
The only way to flash the VCM without a car would be to send the VCM to Karma Automotive technical support and they have a wire frame car that they can install it in and flash.
So basically the dealer can do it all they need is another Karma to install it in

Harleyguy,
In your opinion, would it be best to have the VCM sent in to Karma Automotive tech support, or have you courier your computer and have you remotely do it? I have more trust in you than sending pieces of equipment out into the nether
