I ordered the TOM20 kit and look forward to receiving it soon here in Germany. Once its installed I will test it on a proper German autobahn using this iphone app. Once I got the results I will share it in this forum...

I'm having issues finding the fuse, even though I see a post from about a year ago stating it was purchased on eBay for less than $100.

I've searched for "630A Bussmann 170M3423 Fuse" and I've found some that are used and the label is slightly different:

Does anyone know of a good source?

Thanks,
Ed

Default MSD price under 15 dollars each

thread is old, but figured to post anyways.

Pulled my MSD and didn't know to firmly press it back in after clip engage. Car would not go into D or R. So I thought I messed up mine. after measuring continuity I found it to be good.

inbetween testing continuity MSD. I found and purchased 2 MSD from ebay.
Figured best to have spares anyways.

Posting link price is $15 or best offer. I offered 10 each for 2, which was accepted.

Default MSD upgrade is a quick fix

From Fabulist's post in the above link:
"Inside the MSD, there is a fuse that restricts the amount of power that can be drawn from the battery. The factory fuse is limited to 350A which is wildly undersized. The fuse can be safely upgraded to a 630A fuse to allow more power to be drawn out of the battery without blowing the fuse. Combined with the TOM, it puts an additional pep in the Karma's step. This is a fairly inexpensive upgrade, as a new MSD costs less than $100 and the upgraded fuse can be had for another $50. I kept my old MSD as a spare in case the new one dies at an inopportune moment."

This is exactly the kind of info that makes this board so valuable to 2012 owners, so let's hear from anyone who has done this upgrade:
-where did you purchase the fuse, and for how much (link please)?
-what was your experience as far as ease of replacement?
-any downsides to doing this? (any risk to weigh against the reward?)
-what differences/improvements did you notice as a result of the fix?

Fire away!
I installed the TOM upgrade on my ECO Chic yesterday, as well as the MSD fuse upgrade. I purchased the fuse off of EBay and was amazed at how easy it was to adapt the housing and install. The fuse housing pops apart easily by triggering a few plastic clips with a flathead. Removing a couple of bolts at either end of the fuse was doable with a simple hand wrench. It goes back together with the same ease. The back seat comes out without tools - exposing the door to the MSD chamber. In, switched and back together in less than 15 minutes.

I need more time to experience all the changes and discern individual benefits, but the vehicle definitely feels more responsive.

My timing has been bad on finding a fuse. I was finally able to order (a new) one last night I offered $50 and they accepted.

Can this be replaced safely without first installing the TOM? Does it still give the same benefits?
