Great idea, Hans

Thanks

Touch screens come in all sort of sizes and usually sport a 1920*1080 resolution.
Supports CAN bus connectivity native. SDKs available for all major brands.
Something to look into for PowerSource perhaps?
Unit price start from US $500 for a 13" to US $1100 for a 19"

Yea issue with the generic off the shelf models is that most run on android and can easily be corrupted if someone were to put a rogue application on the unit which could compromise vehicle functions.
IMO best to go with the Alpine unit as it sandboxes the vehicle functions from the application layer.

Can a company refuse to sell a part? Is that Legal?
Also I may have missed it, but did KA specifically say why they would not release source code? It can't be a liability issue since the bankruptcy should distance them from that. Perhaps they don't own the code?

Yes Tesla has a policy of not selling certain parts and marks them as "restricted."
KA answer is here:

I am pretty sure they own the GUI code, which the user community can use to fix many of the bugs. They have never claimed not to own the code but rather that they will not release the code.

I like this idea of an aftermarket solution. I just had the latest software "upgrade" done, and it's crap. Bluetooth, which has worked fine in my car until now, doesn't work at all. The tire pressure light on the dash stays on, even though the pressures are fine and the diagnostic light is not orange. Great job, Fisker. I'd jump at the chance to put reliable hardware from a company like Alpine in to my car.

Gatorsurgeon, the tire pressure should be working fine. After they updated your system, is it possible that they just need to relearn the sensors? It is a quick fix.
As for Bluetooth, depending on the phone and its settings really effect that outcome..
