Default Park System Fault, had to be towed

This evening I had a park system fault and had to be towed home. I have not had any major issues with the car. I hope my RDM has not failed as I did not hear any strange noises. The car was put to sleep and we disconnected the black cable on the passenger side but it would not budge. Any suggestions?

If the car is stuck in park it doesn't always mean you have a failing RDM I've had cars do that after the 12 volt battery has failed. In order to get it out of park I release the parking pawl by applying 12 volts to the parking pawl motor wiring at the HCU comes comes out of park recycle the parking pawl and it's good to go

Lormax came by today and re-flashed the hybrid controller and all seems well. My car was recently updated to the new software and that seemed to have cause issue. Back on old software thanks to Lormax.

Okay, @Nikon, before those of us (like myself) who are about to get BL530 break out in a cold sweat, we need to know if your 12V battery might have been responsible - as @Harleyguy suggested.

I've posted this before: most of the original batteries were manufactured in the fall of 2011. They are near or at the end of their life. They should be replaced sooner rather than later.

Before anyone can blame the new software for the parking pawl issue, we need to see a pattern develop over time. There are others variables - like the condition of the battery, RDM, etc. - that may be factors.

So did Travis do anything else (like charge the 12V battery) before he re-flashed the HCU?

Car was in valet line when it refused to go out of Park. Valet staff tried to let car sleep and then disconnected the black battery cable. No result. The 12v battery was replaced by OC Autocare of Aliso Viejo in October. 12V was fine, he first tried a hard reset then decided to re-program hybrid controller- this fixed the issue.

It didn't fix the problem it basically reset the the HCU . He doesn't have 530 so he reflashed back to 520 you might have a hidden problem in your RDM that 530 picked up that 520 couldn't pickup.

I'm impressed about the valet staff!!!

Even the ADAC (AAA in Germany) refused to try this, after my Karma wouldn't go in D.
It happened on a highway service place and he parked nearby, so I asked him for help.
I had to do this by myself

I'm having a similar problem and am wondering if you could provide information on how to perform this procedure? Last Fall I installed a battery tender to the positive terminal in the fuse box. The nut worked its way loose and caused total power shutdown while driving. Not good. At any rate, now the car is stuck in neutral. I can switch to drive, reverse and neutral, but not park. I'm hoping that if I can toggle the parking pawl back to Park, things will reset themselves.

What happens when you turn it off? (pushing the button twice)?
