I'm officially getting **toasted** here

Couple of days ago my dealer calls me and tells me that they took the whole engine out and the coupler is intact! And then they ask me for guidance!! Well, I PM'd FiskerPhilly and HarleyGuy and they both answered the same -> Replace the coupler anyway as its weak, even if it appears intact. I passed the message along

But yesterday, after my dealer contacted KA in the US for authorization of the warranty funds they state that it is the customer requesting the change and not KA...hence, they won't approve it

And my dealer says that they spent 20 man hours and they want 4000€ for that alone!! Well, I agreed to pay for the parts and not the labour and they are proceeding that way. The parts they propose to replace are:
C1311102030 Damper Assembly
C1311102010 Flywheel Assembly
C1311102020 Shaft Coupler

The total is like 700€ + 21% taxes. Do all 3 need to be replaced?

I'm surprised that KA after a year of me suffering this issue, does not offer any solution....and on top, are acting difficult on this resolution. I love the car...but seriously!!

I thought in Europe all cars are covered under the distributor warranty? If the car is throwing misfire MIL and going into RPM it is an issue with the vehicle's coupler. The springs have been weakened and coupler will soon break apart. The Coupler is introducing the misfire.

Also on the Drive Motor B faults we saw this same error when upgrading inverter fw to BL520 I went back to the old version and the faults went away. I think it is an issue with loss of resolver position that causes it.

Thanx for the feedback PowerSource! What does it mean 'loss of resolver position that causes it'?

The garage actually called me later today and insisted that I pass by to see the car and I did pass there. The Coupler looks intact...in fact it looks almost brand new. Same for the Flywheel. The garage recommends not to replace it....but I have started down this path with all of your expert advice and I'm willing to insist and go along. But do I need to replace the Flywheel and the Damper too?

If you are having misfire issues, it is most likely the coupler. In most instances, there is no way to visually inspect the coupler and make a determination that it has failed. I haven't seen the trouble codes, but if your vehicle is shutting down the ICE due misfires and going into RPM it is likely due to a failing coupler. I would swap out the coupler, while you have the ICE out. You might as well put some sound proofing on the vehicle firewall, fenders and frame rails to reduce the NVH profile.

Do NOT let them put that car back together with an old coupler! Never replace the flywheel. Only coupler and shaft. Find it hard to believe that KA won't cover it. It's a common fail point. Can you send me the communication between the dealer and KA. I will talk to them about this.

All of you guys rock! Thanx for your support...it truly means a lot.

I have copied your responses and sent it to the dealer to showcase the consistency of feedback. And I've insisted to replace the coupler and they agreed to do it.

And they also promised to send me the communication with KA by cob today. Will forward it once I receive it.

Thanx once again!

Default Reduced Performance Error When Hitting a Bump

To access the battery, you need a jack. It's hidden under the right front fender.
A couple weeks ago I started losing my presets when I turn the car off.

Yesterday I hit a bump and the Reduced Performance error came on. When the car reset the error is gone.

Later when I hit a bump (pot hole) the Reduced Performance air immediately came on again. Could this be the battery cable loose? This sounds like a logical explanation.

Harleyguy, can you use your computer to reprogram my CIU to restore my loss presets when I turn the car back on?

Reduced Performance Error is definitely triggered by pothole.

I pulled the wheel and check the battery cables they were tight. I retighten them just for reassurance.

I have been driving carefully to avoid potholes but as soon as I hit a pothole the reduced performance error message reappears. A soft reset the reduced performance air disappears and the check engine light remains. Eventually the check engine error resets on its on and all error messages are gone.

What possibly does potholes or violent movements of the chassis have to do with Reduced Performance error coming on?

It just occurred to me that itís possible that the same road conditions that takes the car out of Hill Mode could be associated with the reduced performance arror problem Iím having.

There are certain road conditions that will take the car out of Hill Mode which I believe is normal and most of us may have experienced this. Youíre driving along and all of a sudden you hit a bump or certain road conditions and the car drops out of Hill Mode.

Can someone explain what triggers this action because Iím trying to determine if it has anything to do with the reduced performance arror. What sends the signal to the Vehicle to take away the Hill Mode?

Sam
