Default Cooling fan won't turn off

The last 2 times that I charged my car, the fan stayed on indefinitely even after the charging was complete. The first time it did it, my car was actually fully charged, but I plugged the power cord in and the fan came on. 6 hours later I noticed that it was still running, and when I pulled the plug out of the car it stopped.

Today it did the same thing. It charged for about 4 hours and then 8 hours later the fan was still running.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is my car about to burst into flames?

Brian, most likely yes. ;-)

It's most likely coming on to keep the battery pack coolant at a lower temperature. The battery pack gets warm during charging as well as discharging. If you smell burning rubber as you pull into your driveway... don't park it in your garage. Leave it out on the street and see if you can find where the burning smell is coming from.

I've had the same issue. Key is to make sure the fan is off before you plug it in. If the fan is running it will continue to run, if you wait for the fan to turn off it will stay off.

I'm told that there will be a software patch to fix this available shortly.

And no, your car won't catch on fire (AFAIK). Let's not joke about that guys. Too soon.

Brian, I seriously have no idea why you haven't asked your dealer to buy back your car so you can get a newer model. My sense is you've had a disproportionately high number of issues that most of us have not encountered (or encountered as frequently). Get a later build that has fewer issues. Yours sounds like a very sour lemon.

It's also probably a very good idea to remove all that extra fireworks you have been stockpiling for the next July 4th celebration out of the garage and somewhere safer.

I don't think so. I'm not seeing anything that anyone else hasn't seen. I only have a higher frequency because of the # of miles I've put on the car. I'm at around 4000 miles and I've had the car for 6 months, so that's a bigger window than average to have encountered all of this stuff. As best I can recall, my car has never done anything that hasn't been reported by everyone else.

Brian,
One question do you use the 110 charger or do you have the 220 one installed also do you wait the two minutes for the car to go too sleep I'm sure owning the car for the time you have you know most of the problems or some of the in convinces that have to be dealt with .

It's the 220, and up until the other day this had never happened, but it happened twice in a row. I normally don't wait for the fan to turn off, but I think usually it's off by the time I pull the cord to the back of the car. It's getting warmer out, so the fan is staying on longer and that may have been the trigger.
