If it is coming from the rear, it can't be the muffler, because the muffler is in the engine compartment in front of the driver, not behind.
is describing sounds more like an issue with the Rear Drive Module (RDM) or one or both motors. The motors make a normal electrical whine when the car is slowing down and regenerating electricity, but there should not be any mechanical (metal on metal) noises coming from the rear of the car during deceleration. If there is a mechanical sound coming from the back of the car, you may be looking at some serious repairs, unfortunately.
This problem has been discussed in greater detail in threads such as this one
Did the car come with any sort of warranty?
